Potency And Terpene Analysis
CanMedLabs qualifies 12+ cannabinoids and 22+ Terpenes in its analysis. Identifying these compounds and their effects will help consumers understand the effects of the medicinal cannabis they plan to ingest. CanMedLabs Uses “HPLC” methods for Potency and Terpene Analyses’. The following is a list of cannabinoids and Terpenes CanMedLabs identifies and quantifies. If there are other terpenes of interest for testing, please contact us. We can develop a method together
Cannabinoids are the chemical compounds from the cannabis plant. Research indicates that cannabinoids are known to provide relief for a variety of symptoms including inflammation, pain, nausea. CanMedLabs quantifies potency content for 12+ essential cannabinoids using both Gas Chromatograph (GC) and High Pressure Liquid Chromatograph (HPLC) technologies for cannabinoid analysis. These technologies coupled with flame ionization detection systems, provide definitive selectivity and sensitivity. Potency testing can be conducted on fresh or dry cannabis flower. THCA, THC, CBD, CBDA, and CBN are quantified by the total percent by weight equivalents (cannabinoid acids plus neutral forms) are reported for potency testing.
- THC Acid
Terpenes are the aromatic compounds that provide distinct scents and flavors in cannabis. Terpenes are suspected to aid in the therapeutic properties of cannabis and are the reason for the characteristic aromas of cannabis strains. Terpenes alone are reported to contain anti-microbial and anti-inflammatory properties.
There is an increased demand for analytical methods that profile terpenes in cannabis plants due to the contribution to the therapeutic effects. Analysis of terpenes is also used to differentiate cannabis strains with resulting terpene profiles used for strain identification.
CanMedLabs uses headspace gas chromatography along with a flame ionization detection (GC-FID) to test for 21+ most commonly found terpenes in cannabis. Results are reported in mg/g.

CanMedLabs utilizes Gas Chromatography with Flame Ionization Detection with Headspace Analysis for Residual solvent testing. This allows the Lab to the ability to identify any solvents that were remnant in the extraction process. CanMedLabs tests for the following solvents: CanMedLabs developed, tested, and confirmed an algorithm to identify the presence of harmful solvents, chemicals, and impurities present in formulated or concentrated form of cannabis.
Solvents are used during the manufacturing process for concentrates to extract active ingredients in an effort to produce a resinous product called “shatter”. When concentrates are not properly prepared, an issue develops resulting in high levels of solvents in the concentrate where patients can end up absorbing.
We use headspace gas chromatography to test for the most commonly found residual solvents and ensure adherence to the “tolerable daily intake” (TDI) established by the International Program on Chemical Safety (IPCS).

Having experience in toxicology testing, CanMedLabs understands the importance of implementing a clean environment when dealing samples. The lab takes Microbial Testing extremely seriously as the presence of such can cause major health hazards to the user. CanMedLabs Tests for:
Some microbioloical organisms can be harmful to our health. It is a fact that most cannabis has some form of microbiological colonies.
CanMedLabs offers comprehensive testing for common toxic microbial organisms using industry specified methods and analysis. Results are based on the AHPA along with other industry specific standards. Results are indicated as PASS or NOT PASS.

Pesticide And Chemical Residuals
Pesticides are known to be dangerous to human health. In addition, many have been banned for use in all consumable products. Cannabis should be no different.
ACMPR has a short list of pest control products approved for use when producing medical cannabis. Fungicide, pant-growth regulator (PGR), and Pesticide use in cultivating cannabis is currently unregulated when grown by patients. Residual levels of these potentially dangerous chemicals can be unsafe to consume, particularly through smoking or vaporization. There are no pesticide residue tolerance limits that have been established or cannabis.
Currently, we perform a pesticide screen analyzing for 61 pesticides, fungicides, and PGRs and provide positive confirmation down to single digit ppm concentrations or lower:
CanMedLabs implements the latest LC-MS/MS Technologies for identifying pesticides and chemical residues. The lab is constantly updating the list to include any harmful residual chemicals that could be present in cannabis samples. The list includes:
- DDVP (Dichlorvos)
- Methyl parathion
